Mom-to-Be Darlene Haynes Found Dead, Fetus Missing

Missing FetusA 23-year-old Worcester, Massachusetts woman, Darlene Haynes, was found mutilated, wrapped in bedding and stuffed in a closet in her apartment after not being heard from for days.

Baby May Still Be Alive

It sounds like something that you might hear on your nightly 10:00 news. But this is not just your everyday murder mystery. Haynes had been eight months pregnant . . . and her fetus, a little girl, is missing.
As of Wednesday, police were frantically searching the area as there is a chance that the baby could still be alive.

Who Did It?

So, is this is a case of “stealing” a baby for monetary or other purposes, or an act of horrific violence purely for the sake of violence?
Police have not named any suspects, but two men are currently “under review” for being in connection with Haynes. One, ex-boyfriend Roberto Rodriquez, was the father of one of Haynes’s one-year-old daughter, Christina. Apparently Haynes had taken out a restraining order on Rodriquez almost four weeks ago after he made threats . . . including death threats.
The other man in question is landlord William Thompson, who also conveniently discovered her body. Sources say Thompson would enter Haynes’s apartment un-invited, and reportedly “harass” her repeatedly.
So far, neither of these two men has officially been named a suspect in the case, and police are unclear as to the motive for the killing and kidnapping.

Not the First Time

As gruesome as it seems, this is not the first time that a woman has been attacked or killed for her baby. In fact, just last year two women were convicted for killing expectant mothers, literally cutting the fetuses from their wombs. Both babies in these cases survived the attacks, lending even more importance to the search for Haynes’s little girl.

Who is Darlene Haynes?

Family members report that Darlene Haynes was severely developmentally disabled, functioning as a 12- or 13-year-old. In fact, Hayne’s great-aunt, Sanrda Grandmaison told reporters that “Darlene does not have the know-how or the ability to sense danger.”Despite those limitations, she was mother to three other children Jasmine, 5, and Lilli, 3 (who were being raised by Haynes’ grandmother), and Christina, 1.
Grandmaison also attested that Haynes was a good mother who loved her children unconditionally and was looking forward to the birth of her fourth little girl.

Is There Hope?

Despite the terrible death that Haynes suffered, there is a small chance that her baby is still alive and will be found soon. Unfortunately, the child would have needed almost immediate medical attention to even have the slightest chance of survival.
