One of the more common shakes and drinks available over the counter of the local health and vitamin store is the weight gainer shake. Bodybuilders and those who are underweight and need to add some pounds especially love these shakes and drinks.
Weight gainers often come in a flavored powder can be added to water to make a simple drink or to other items such as yogurt to make a shake. These are simply high calorie meal replacers often supplying upwards of 1,000 calories in one serving/shake, it would take approximately 5-6 slim fasts to get that type of caloric content!

The carbohydrate content in these shakes is often found in the form of maltodextrin which is a high glycemic index carbohydrate which is why these shakes may not be for diabetics. As always it is important to consult with your primary care provider before deciding to use weight gainers and to ensure you are healthy enough for these products. .
