There are tons of protein supplements on the market for those looking for a meal supplement for weight loss, body builders looking to bulk up, or athletes looking to maintain healthy lean muscle. Unfortunately, not every athlete is built the same, and whether it is due to some deficiency in the body's ability to digest or from a variety of allergies, some people may have to be more selective on their choices for supplements.
People with milk allergies or lactose intolerance may find that most whey protein products are going to be unsuitable for their bodies, causing more discomfort than any beneficial gains the product can give. The alternatives aren't necessarily all that great. Soy protein is not recommended for males, and it has been shown to cause a variety of health concerns with prolonged intake. Goat milk protein is all about taste, and most people don't find it palatable. That leaves egg protein as one of the more preferable alternatives to whey.
Egg protein, as you may guess, is sourced from eggs. The benefit to an egg protein supplement is the reduction in cholesterol and increased weight in protein. Normal eggs are very high in cholesterol while only offering 4-6 grams of protein. Cholesterol is definitely needed, but not in quantities that one would intake if trying to reach their daily protein requirement through eggs alone. Since egg protein isn't sourced from milk, there is no lactose intolerance or milk allergy to worry about, making it a perfect alternative to whey.
