Fatigue is one of the most common health concerns and also one of the hardest to pinpoint the origins. Fatigue is also referred to as tiredness, weakness or lethargy and is often a symptom of other conditions.
Symptoms of this health concern are lack of energy, passing out, dizziness, heart palpitations and shortness of breath.
Some common causes of fatigue include sleep disturbances, heart diseases, lunch diseases, nutritional disorders, endocrine disorders and other infectious causes. Certain blood pressure medications such as beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors and diuretics are all infamous for causing fatigue. These drugs decrease blood pressure which decreases the amount of work the heart has to do, sometimes causing fatigue. Other drugs that have a calming effect on the central nervous system can also cause fatigue such as antidepressants, opiates and muscle relaxers. Certain metabolic disorders such as thyroid disease and diabetes can cause considerable fatigue that can usually be corrected through proper treatments of these diseases.
Often times fatigue can be treated with medication. Some medications used to treat fatigue include iron supplements, antibiotics and vitamins. Sometimes recommendations for dietary changes are made as well as machines to use to correct sleep apnea.
It may be important to see a doctor if fatigue is not corrected by adequate sleep and dietary changes or if fatigue is accompanied by more serious symptoms such as unexplained weight changes, pain in the head, abdomen and chest. If this health concern is associated with any type of bleeding, passing out, irregular heartbeats or chest pain it is important to see medical treatment immediately.
