Masks of all sorts have been used as beauty products by women for ages. There are all sorts of masks, facial masks being the most popular. Masks are used in place of more drastic procedure such as facelifts which are used to better skin tone and provide a younger looking face.
There are many types of face masks such as clay, gel, orange and cream. Clay masks are made with natural ingredients from the earth's soil. They are known to absorb oil from the skin's surface as they dry, removing dirt in the process. They tighten as they dry which helps to stimulate blood flow to the skin's surface thus allowing more nutrients to be accessible for repair of natural damages caused by sun exposure and aging. Due to their tightening ability these masks may irritate those with sensitive skin.
Gel masks are spread on a clean face and allowed to dry for approximately ten to fifteen minutes. Once dry, these masks can be peeled off, usually starting at the chin and lifting upwards toward the hairline. These masks remove dead skin cells, dirt, blackheads and sometimes facial hair as they are being lifted off. Most all skin types can tolerate a gel mask fairly well without irritation, although they do not absorb oil as clay masks do. Cream masks are used more for drier skin types as these creams have enough oil in them by themselves and may irritate already oily skin. These masks usually work as a toner to firm the skin's surface and provide a more youthful look.
