There are many acne solutions for the treatment of acne but finding the proper one depends greatly on the type of acne one suffers from. Acne can range from mild to severe and an acne solution should be fitted to the type one has. For any acne solution it is important to know that treatment takes time, some treatments will work for some but not others and if self treatment fails at home, a dermatologists help may be needed.
Mild acne is characterized by lesions close to the surface of the skin such as blackheads, whiteheads and pustules. Most often this type of acne can be treated at home. Washing twice a day with a mild soap and using a topical beauty product such as an ointment that contains an active ingredient like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide is usually enough to treat this type of acne. It is important to know that with mild acne it may take four to eight weeks to see improvement and that after acne has been cured treatment must be continued to prevent further breakouts.
Moderate acne is characterized by numerous whiteheads, blackheads and deeper papules and pustules. This type of acne typically covers 3/4 to 2/3 the surface of the face and usually requires the medical supervision of a dermatologist. Some acne solutions for this type include prescription medications such as topical retnoids, contraceptives and oral antibiotics, physical treatments like light therapy and over the counter acne medications as well.
The worst type of acne, severe acne, is characterized by deep cysts, inflammation and damage to the skin tissue with scarring. This type of acne is treated with oral antibiotics, surgical drainage, corticoid/corticosteroid injections as well as over the counter beauty products.
