The Estrogen Feedback Loop is the first system used to produce estrogen in a male’s body. This is done by an enzyme called aromatize, which converts free testosterone into estrogen. The second system that control estrogen production is the Androgen Negative Feedback Loop. Excess testosterone is sensed by the Hypothalamus through androgen receptors. If testosterone levels rise beyond a natural set point, the Hypothalamus may limit or shut down testosterone production.

So if either of these Negate Feedback Loops are active, more than likely testosterone production will be limited or shut down and estrogen will be free to roam throughout the body. What determines how much free testosterone we have at any given time is an enzyme known as Sex Hormone Binding Globulin -- also known as SHBG. The more you have, the more testosterone will be kept in a bound state. It's our body's way of maintaining homeostasis.
